When you think of a van, you usually think of a Ford Transit. Let’s face it; vans aren’t the most interesting of vehicles. But somehow, the Transit has managed to become an icon in the UK. The word Transit has even become synonymous with a versatile and capable LCV.
With over 8,000,000 sold worldwide since its introduction in 1965, it has allowed Ford to dominate the light goods vehicle market. Originally marketed for Western Europe, the Transit series can now be found across every continent. While only introduced in America in 2015, by the very next year it was already the best-selling van in the United States.
Now on its fourth generation, Ford has implemented the stylish, modern, and no-messing-about, visual details that the brand is now known for to its range of workhorse vehicles. Somehow, Ford has managed to make a utilitarian vehicle meant for everyday work look a perfect balance of aggressive and versatile.
The Transit Connect is the smallest vehicle in the Transit line, although it punches well above its weight. Launched in the UK back in 2003, the Connect changed the small van market for good. Not only can it handle cargo as long as you might expect from a medium sized van of a class above.
No one buys a van for the driving experience or handling, but it is undeniably a welcome bonus. With its inner mechanics based on the respected Ford Focus and C-Max, it should be of no surprise that the van handles and drives very well.
What makes this an even better driver’s vehicle is its modern techy features. Ford’s integrated voice control system is also included which allows you to focus on driving, not fiddling about with controls. The van also includes Ford’s ground-breaking SYNC emergency assistance feature, as well as Bluetooth and USB connectivity which we have come to expect from modern vehicles.
With the Transit Custom, versatility is king. Yet again, Ford has managed to provide a huge cargo area in a medium-sized van. With a bay volume of 5.95m3 and a payload capacity of 874kg, the van is capable of carrying a lot of cargo – and with the Custom’s incredibly low distance from the ground, filling the cargo area could not be easier.
Again, Ford does not forget about the driver while focusing on utility. It has the convenient features we have come to expect from modern vehicles, such as the USB and AUX connectivity, as well as features we would expect from a more luxury vehicle such as front and rear parking assist.
With Ford’s Eco Mode the Connect is very economical to run, and the SYNC emergency assist system makes it very safe to drive. An 8-seater minivan version of the vehicle is also available.
With a base-level bay capacity increase of around 11% over the previous generation, it sits at around 9.5m3, with a weight capacity of 1319kg. In combination with a rear door aperture measuring in at 1565mm high and 1758mm wide, doors which open to 180 degrees, along with an integrated bumper step, getting goods into the vehicle couldn’t be any easier. If this isn’t enough, we also have a H3 high roof version which increases the capacity significantly, as well as a flatbed version.
Ford has taken the time to ensure the Transit is a well-rounded utilitarian vehicle. The Transit sports modern safety features such as Ford’s SYNC emergency assistance system and driver warnings to keep you safe while you are out working. It also boasts convenient features such as easy-to-clean loading area floor, and USB, AUX, and Bluetooth connectivity.
If you are willing to sacrifice some loading bay space but want a vehicle that will work hard, get you anywhere you need to go regardless of terrain, carry loads of up to 1088kg, and look tremendously cool while doing it, then you might want to opt for the Ranger pick-up over a Transit van.
Ford has created a luxurious interior with leather seemingly everywhere and has overhauled the Ranger dashboard, integrating many modern features for both connectivity and safety. With 2 USB ports, 6 speakers, and an AUX socket, entertainment in the Ranger excels.
If you often need to work in unforgiving terrain, carry goods that are better suited for a pick-up style cargo area, or even just want to treat yourself with a luxury driver experience, then the Ranger is for you.
Ford is an incredibly reliable brand, known for creating vehicles that are cheap to run and maintain. With their extensive features and stylish looks, they have become a favourite brand for LCV users all over the country. Get in contact now to organise leasing a vehicle from us.
